I'm all kinds of psyched for October, guys. Not only is Halloween practically on our doorsteps, but I have some super-nifty stuff coming up throughout the month, and I'm jazzed out of my mind about that.

First of all, Necessaries was selected for the Indy Author Fair at the "Meet an Author, Be an Author" event on October 14th at the Indianapolis Central Library (40 East St. Clair Street, downtown Indianapolis). The event is free and runs from 10:15 am to 4:30 pm. It's going to be a day full of writerly panels, workshops, and lectures, and I'm getting giddy just thinking about it. You can catch me from 11 am to 1 pm in the Simon Reading Room, desperately pawning copies of my book off on people, and bumbling through a pitch of my own story. Please come visit me. I'm already nervous.

Secondly, Necessaries will also be on sale at the Ann Katz Festival of Books & Arts from October 23rd through November 13th at the Arthur M. Glick Jewish Community Center (6701 Hoover Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46260). The three week festival has a lot of events going on, including a fitting "Super Hero Palooza" on October 29th. Definitely worth checking out!

Lastly, as part of my "real" job with C. H. Douglas & Gray Wealth Management, I'll be spending a number of upcoming weekends at the Phoenix Theatre during the run of Fun Home, talking before the curtain about why our firm supports the arts, and why this show in particular means so much to me. In case you missed the hype for the recipient of the 2015 Tony Award for Best Musical, let me give you a quick rundown of the show:

Based on Alison Bechdel’s graphic novel memoir of the same name, Fun Home tells the story of a lesbian cartoonist reflecting on her relationship with her deceased father, who was a distant parent and closeted gay man. Through award-winning music and poignant storytelling, Fun Home explores themes of growing up, coming out, and seeing your parents through adult eyes.

It probably goes without saying that I - the lesbian writer, artist, and theatre nerd - was reeeeaaaal into that graphic novel memoir, and subsequently reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaal into the musical adaptation. Heck, reading the memoir during my freshman year of college was a big factor in me coming out the following year. I am head-over-heels for this show, and after sitting in on a read-through with the cast at the Phoenix, I can say with certainty that you'll fall for it too.

As sponsors of the show, C. H. Douglas & Gray has a special discount for tickets. Use the code "CHDOUGLAS" when buying tickets on the Phoenix Theatre site for $5 off admission! Fun Home runs September 22 through October 22, and I'm hoping to be at at least one performance each weekend. Be still my nerves...

So, that's what I'm up to this September/October. I hope to see you out there! Even if you have to reintroduce yourself to me, because I'm face-blind and oblivious. TTFN!
